United Icons: Ruud van Nistelrooy

The Dutch striker scored 150 times for Manchester United and is often considered one of the best of his generation. How good was he? Before we provide a full overview, let's explore one of the best campaigns of his career. Goals at PSV catch the eye He scored 77 goals in 90 matches for PSV. Other clubs were interested but he was seemingly only interested in a move to Old Trafford. In the spring of 2000, he looked set to complete a club record £18.5 million transfer to Manchester United.  He was to be unveiled at a press conference four days later, but this was instead used to announce that the transfer had been postponed over concerns about his fitness.  Not long after, he suffered a rupture to his anterior cruciate knee ligaments during a training session, leaving him injured for a year. Eventual move and success at Manchester United In his first season at Old Trafford, he scored 36 goals in 49 appearances.  One of his best performances came in a 3-2 FA Cup win over Aston Villa.

United Icons: Paul Scholes

Paul Scholes is one of Manchester United's greatest-ever midfielders He was part of the Class of 92.  His first team debut came in September 1994, where he scored both goals in a 2–1 win away at Port Vale in the League Cup. The strange thing about that match was United and Sir Alex Ferguson were heavily criticised for playing a weakened team. The debate even reached MP's. Who would have known that one of the best ever English midfielders was making his debut that day? His league debut came three days later against Ipswich Town at Portman Road, a game in which United lost 3-2 but Scholes scored a consolation goal.  The 1994/1995 season was a good debut campaign for Scholes, but they finished the season without a trophy.  The 1995/1996 season was then a success for the club and Scholes. He scored 14 goals in 31 appearances. The Treble A few years later, Scholes was a key player in Manchester United's treble success. He scored one of Manchester United's two goals a

We now take a look at one of Manchester United's greatest ever icons This article was originally posted on European Super Football. The news of Eric Cantona's impending transfer from Leeds to fierce rivals Manchester United was met with hostility from Leeds fans.  However, the transfer was seen as a good piece of business by most football experts. The Yorkshire club had removed a troubled player from their side and got decent money for him even though he played a part in them winning the league during the previous season.  Watch: Eric Cantona's 14 goals for Leeds United Eric The King Cantona made his first appearance for the club on 1 December 1992 in a friendly match against Benfica in Lisbon to mark Eusébio's 50th birthday, wearing the number 10 shirt.  Eric made his competitive debut as a second-half substitute against Manchester City at Old Trafford on 6 December.
