United Review: Giant step taken towards Wembley

Nottingham Forest 0 - 3   Manchester United

It was a comfortable evening for United

Marcus Rashford continued his sensational scoring streak at the City Ground as United closed in on an EFL Cup final appearance at Wembley next month with a comfortable win over Nottingham Forest.

His brilliant solo effort gave United the advantage six minutes into the first leg of the semi-final.

January loan signing Wout Weghorst added a second just before the break with his first goal for the club and Bruno Fernandes wrapped up the scoring a minute from time to provide Erik ten Hag's men with a healthy first-leg advantage.

Reaction

The Manchester United boss spoke with great pride about his star player. He said: " From the start of the season he is growing and he keeps doing that and what we have to aim for with him - and he is responsible for that - is to keep this process going. If he is in this mood, this spirit, he is unstoppable and it's about the team to get him in the right positions."

How good was this goal from Marcus Rashford?

Liam, a Manchester United fan from Oldham, told us: "It was a great evening for the club. We can start booking train tickets to London now."

One United fan posted on Twitter: "Rashford is our man of the moment. He has been very impressive and exceptional lately. I hope to see him carry along this form all season."

Minutes later, Bruno Fernandes got in on the act from Luke Shaw's corner. Our no.8 wasn't picked up as he wandered into the area to make it 3-1 on the night.  The final goal fell to Wout Weghorst, scoring his first in front of the Old Trafford faithful. Second-half substitute Facundo Pellistri was at the heart of the move, originally teeing up Scott McTominay whose s

United Review: Man United win first trophy since 2017.

Manchester United 2 - 0 Newcastle United Manchester United beat Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium. Casemiro’s header opened the scoring midway through the first half. Marcus Rashford then doubled Man United's lead with a shot that took a deflection off Newcastle's Sven Botman. Newcastle did test David De Gea’s goal during the second half. However, the reds managed to claim victory in London and would have extended the lead but for Loris Karius's heroics.  Erik ten Hag has now picked up his first piece of silverware as United manager.
