United Review: Casemiro shines in comfortable win

Manchester United 3 - 0 Nottingham Forest

It was a straightforward night for the Red Devils as we brushed aside Forest with relative ease.

Man United 3 - 0 Nottingham Forest

First goal was a training exercise worked to perfection

We were ahead in the 19th minute from a set-piece move that would have brought a smile to the face of Teddy Sheringham, the former United and Forest striker who had particular success with goals from near-post corners. On this occasion, Christian Eriksen angled the ball along the ground and Rashford swept it into the net, finishing as he ran at full speed.

Hennessey at fault for the second goal

It was 2-0 a few minutes later after the slippery conditions deceived Hennessey. They took advantage of an overload on the left flank as Fernandes worked the ball forward to Rashford, who found Martial on the edge of the penalty area. His shot was side-footed, weak and, despite going through Willy Boly’s legs, should have been saved, but the ball squirmed from Hennessey’s grasp and trickled over the line.

VAR to the rescue?

The away side had thought they had pulled one back just before the interval when Ryan Yates got on the end of a free-kick with his head but his finish flicked off Boly, who was in an offside position. When Jesse Lingard was taken off clutching his right hamstring that was already heavily strapped.

Fred impresses in brief cameo

Ten Hag was punching the air in delight in the final minutes when Fred added to the goals. He finished in the manner of a striker after fellow Brazilian Casemiro raided forward and threaded the ball through for his team-mate.

Highlights and reaction

Highlights from Manchester United - YouTube

One YouTuber commented: "Casemiro was unreal, amazing player who is making a massive difference - have to say as well though, that little run and stop from Varane at the corner to confuse the defenders and give Rashford some space to score was fantastic."

Another added: "Even without seeing the stats you know Casemiro had the most interceptions, tackles and defensive involvements. The cement between the stones. Clear man of the match"

Controversial Reds: Love or Hate Tevez?

What do you think of Carlos Tevez? Carlos Tevez is one of the most controversial players to have played for United and City. Let's have a look at his time at Old Trafford then his spell at The Etihad. Move to England On 23 August 2006, it was reported that Tevez was refusing to play for Corinthians. Tevez confirmed on his website on 31 August that both he and Javier Mascherano were signing for West Ham United on permanent deals for undisclosed fees.  Media reports speculated that other Premier League clubs turned down the opportunity of signing Tevez and Mascherano because of stipulations put in place by third parties MSI and Global Soccer Agencies.  Tevez made his West Ham debut after coming on as a second-half substitute in the 1–1 home draw with Aston Villa on 10 September 2006.   However, after this match, West Ham went on a nine-game winless streak (one draw and eight defeats), which included seven consecutive matches without scoring. This winless run also in...

United Review: Rashford on form as United progress

Manchester United 2 - 0 Burnley Marcus Rashford readjusted to club matters after his World Cup campaign with England as he scored a fine solo goal in Manchester United's EFL Cup win over Burnley at Old Trafford. Rashford was one of five United players on duty in Qatar to make manager Erik ten Hag's starting line-up. Christian Eriksen put the hosts ahead just before the half hour with a fine first-time finish after Aaron Wan-Bissaka has provided his first goal assist since May 2021, Rashford took centre stage 12 minutes into the second period. Given too much space as Burnley's defence backed off, Rashford started running 10 yards inside his own half and didn't stop until he had sprinted into the box, darted between Jack Cork and Jordan Beyer and driven his ninth goal of the season into the bottom corner. It was enough to earn United only their second home win inside 90 minutes in this competition in five years. United have too much for Burnley in the end Despite Burnl...
