United Review: Man United lose at Villa Park

 Aston Villa 3 - 1 Manchester United

A stunning start to Unai Emery's reign at Aston Villa after an awful performance by Manchester United.

Quick summary of a nightmare afternoon for Manchester United

Aston Villa were excellent, and they thoroughly deserve their win. The 3-1 defeat was not a fluke scoreline. United's goal was a fluke but other than that, Villa were excellent and could probably have scored more goals.

This was how United lined up at Villa Park. They were shocked as Villa raced into a 2-0 lead. Luke Shaw's deflected effort gave them hope but Villa were 3-1 up by 49th minute. It was then a very straightforward afternoon for the Villains.

The best chance of the second half came to Dalot. Casemiro found the Portugal right-back, but he decided to pass the ball across the box instead of going for goal, and the chance was gone as it fizzed past every United player and was cleared away.

What went wrong?

United were constantly sloppy in possession, Thhis turned into frustration when Tyrone Mings and Ronaldo had a coming together in the penalty area. Both men received a yellow card for the tussle. It is clear that despite United's improvements this season, the Red Devils still have a awful long way to.

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for the Reds in the sixth minute, with a rifling strike that emphatically flew past Claudio Bravo. Despite an excellent start by United, our goal would be cancelled out just after the half-hour mark due to the on-loan Ayoze Perez firing across David De Gea into the bottom corner.  Erik's reds prove too strong Antony restored United's lead with a trademark effort that curled beyond a stranded Bravo, who could only watch as it hit the top corner. Minutes later, Bruno Fernandes got in on the act from Luke Shaw's corner. Our no.8 wasn't picked up as he wandered into the area to make it 3-1 on the night.  The final goal fell to Wout Weghorst, scoring his first in front of the Old Trafford faithful. Second-half substitute Facundo Pellistri was at the heart of the move, originally teeing up Scott McTominay whose s

United Review: Man United win first trophy since 2017.

Manchester United 2 - 0 Newcastle United Manchester United beat Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium. Casemiro’s header opened the scoring midway through the first half. Marcus Rashford then doubled Man United's lead with a shot that took a deflection off Newcastle's Sven Botman. Newcastle did test David De Gea’s goal during the second half. However, the reds managed to claim victory in London and would have extended the lead but for Loris Karius's heroics.  Erik ten Hag has now picked up his first piece of silverware as United manager.
