United News: Are Manchester United up for sale?

 Are United up for sale?

It has been reported across the world that those running Manchester United are commencing a process to explore strategic alternatives for the club.

The first part of the statement on the Manchester United website reads:

"The process is designed to enhance the club's future growth, with the ultimate goal of positioning the club to capitalize on opportunities both on the pitch and commercially.

As part of this process, the Board will consider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions involving the Company.  This will include an assessment of several initiatives to strengthen the club, including stadium and infrastructure redevelopment, and expansion of the club’s commercial operations on a global scale, each in the context of enhancing the long-term success of the club’s men’s, women’s and academy teams, and bringing benefits to fans and other stakeholders."

Pressure on the Glazer family has increased in a huge way since the failed bid to form the European Super League.

Reaction to the news

We've had a look through the social media platforms and forums to see what the reaction has been. One fairly well-known journalist said the below. This is something that many United fans would agree with:

A thread on the Red Cafe forum ( SKY: Glazers 'exploring financial options that could include an outright sale' | Glazers confirm they will 'explore strategic alternatives' incl. sale | RedCafe.net) has already had over 40 pages of discussion.

The poster Glazed posted the following on that forum: "Firstly as far as I know we have spent less than City. But much more importantly the money has been spent with a commercial agenda in mind, and that's why the money exists. To put it another way, there is a reason we paid Ronaldo half a million a week, and it wasn't football. If we want to compete with City, we need the same kind of morally bankrupt plutocratic owners or some third option besides American sports franchise parasites."

Mancunian Angels replied with the following: "ultimately that's the biggest problem. Football is utterly broken at all levels. I'd love United to start dominating again but doing that with "morally bankrupt plutocratic" owners would never sit easy with me. I despise the Glazers like most but I hope we're all wary of jumping in bed with the first person that says they'll give us a good time."

United's News: Varane injury update

It looks like United will be without their French defender for a while United boss Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Raphael Varane will be unavailable until at least the World Cup, after sustaining an injury against Chelsea. After overstretching during the 1-1 draw against Chelsea and tumbling to the floor in distress, Varane was forced off injured. Ten Hag has since confirmed that he won't feature for United again in the run-up to next month's World Cup. Despite what people are saying, I think Maguire could be a good option for us until Varane recovered." Another said: "Just when we starting to get a settled team, we get another injury. United Review: Late goal dents momentum

Crystal Palace 1 - 1 Manchester United A late free-kick from Crystal Palace's Michael Olise denied Manchester United a victory that would have taken them second in the Premier League. United were on course for their 10th successive win after Bruno Fernandes scored just before half-time when he finished well following Christian Eriksen's pull-back. However, Olise struck in dramatic style with a brilliant curling free-kick to ensure a point apiece. Momentum dented? United had a shout for a penalty on 72 minutes when Scott McTominay was challenged by Chris Richards just inside the Palace box. However, referee Robert Jones waved play on. Three minutes later, De Gea was forced into another fine stop, punching away Marc Guehi's header. This was all before a late Palace goal. Has that dented United's momentum? United Review: Reds progress in FA Cup

FA Cup: Manchester United 3 - 1 Everton Marcus Rashford scored again as Manchester United increased the pressure on Everton boss Frank Lampard with a deserved FA Cup victory at Old Trafford. Super Reds Super News United got off to a great start but Everton fought back Antony turned home Rashford's far-post cross but had the character to fight back. Conor Coady rammed home a 13th-minute equaliser when David de Gea calamitously allowed Neal Maupay's apparently harmless cross to roll through his legs. Rashford shines again Lampard's players continued to battle hard. However, once some brilliant approach play from Rashford had deceived Coady into turning the forward's cross into his own net, the visitors' character alone was not enough. After Dominic Calvert-Lewin had a goal ruled out for offside, Rashford kept his nerve to beat England international team-mate Jordan Pickford from the penalty spot deep into injury time.
