United Moments: Remember a 6-1 victory over Arsenal?

A memorable afternoon at Old Trafford in 2001 as Man United put 6 past Arsenal.

It was also an incredible match for Dwight Yorke.

Manchester United produced a football masterclass to humiliate nearest rivals Arsenal and establish a 16-point lead at the top of the Premiership. Dwight Yorke scored a hat-trick inside 21 magical minutes as a packed Old Trafford was treated to every trick in the book by a United team at the very peak of its powers.

Arsenal were annihilated as Keane and Solskjaer got in on the act with further goals in their best performance of the season. Sheringham then made it six of the best for United with the final goal in injury time.

What happened after?

Man United finished the season as champions, Arsenal finished in 2nd place 10 points behind United. The Gunners did gain some revenge the following season, and won the league at Old Trafford following a 1-0 win.

Did you remember the match?

One United fan offered a critical take on the Arsenal side of that era: "While Wenger's attacking & creative football was beyond legendary and an absolute joy to watch, he never really had a clue defensively compared to previous Arsenal managers. He never really learned how to win ugly.  This is probably why he never won a Champions League. They were always trying to go toe to toe with teams like Barca or Bayern."

A neutral fan provided an interesting statistic: "Dwight Yorke played for United for a short period but he is still regarded as a United legend. He won a treble as soon as he arrived at Old Trafford and scored a whole lot of goals. He was the top scorer for a non-European in the Premier League. This was a record taken by Aguero in 2017."

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for the Reds in the sixth minute, with a rifling strike that emphatically flew past Claudio Bravo. Despite an excellent start by United, our goal would be cancelled out just after the half-hour mark due to the on-loan Ayoze Perez firing across David De Gea into the bottom corner.  Erik's reds prove too strong Antony restored United's lead with a trademark effort that curled beyond a stranded Bravo, who could only watch as it hit the top corner. Minutes later, Bruno Fernandes got in on the act from Luke Shaw's corner. Our no.8 wasn't picked up as he wandered into the area to make it 3-1 on the night.  The final goal fell to Wout Weghorst, scoring his first in front of the Old Trafford faithful. Second-half substitute Facundo Pellistri was at the heart of the move, originally teeing up Scott McTominay whose s

United Review: Man United win first trophy since 2017.

Manchester United 2 - 0 Newcastle United Manchester United beat Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium. Casemiro’s header opened the scoring midway through the first half. Marcus Rashford then doubled Man United's lead with a shot that took a deflection off Newcastle's Sven Botman. Newcastle did test David De Gea’s goal during the second half. However, the reds managed to claim victory in London and would have extended the lead but for Loris Karius's heroics.  Erik ten Hag has now picked up his first piece of silverware as United manager.
